Empowering Women in Agrifood: Vice – Rector Chrysi Laspidou Invites Women to Lead in Larissa’s Agrifood Sector – Join the Movement!

The agrifood sector is currently experiencing a significant transformation characterized by a focus on innovation, sustainability, and inclusivity. Leading this movement is Professor Chrysi Laspidou, Vice-Rector of the University of Thessaly and head of One Planet Thessaly, which serves as the university’s Innovation and Technology Transfer Unit and Entrepreneurship Center. As a dedicated proponent of gender equality and sustainable development, Professor Laspidou is shaping the discourse regarding the essential role of women in agrifood entrepreneurship.

In her work, Professor Laspidou underscores the imperative to enhance female entrepreneurship within the sector, aligning her vision with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality). She asserts that innovation flourishes in environments characterized by diversity. When women are granted equal opportunities, the outcome is the development of more sustainable and resilient agrifood systems that are better equipped to meet the needs of both humanity and the environment.

This commitment is exemplified by the forthcoming informational event to be held in Larissa, which is part of the EWA 2025 (Empowering Women in Agrifood) initiative organized by EIT Food. In collaboration with A Woman Can Be and with substantial support from the University of Thessaly, the event serves as a testament to Vice-Rector Laspidou’s conviction in the significance of local empowerment for achieving a global impact.
