Professor Chrysi Laspidou, Vice-Rector of the University of Thessaly, speaker at the conference titled “World Water Day – One Hundred Years of D.E.Y.A.L.”

 

 

 

The Municipal Water and Sewerage Company of Larissa (DEYAL), in collaboration with the Association of Municipal Water and Sewerage Companies (EDEYA) and the Hellenic Network of Cities with Rivers, organized a conference to celebrate World Water Day and the centenary of DEYAL’s founding.

The primary objective of this event was to address contemporary challenges in water resource management and to analyze the role of local government in fostering sustainable development.

Professor Chrysi Laspidou, who holds the position of Civil Engineering Professor and Vice-Rector for Innovation, Internationalization, Partnerships, and Digital Governance at the University of Thessaly, and who previously served as Vice President of the Brussels-based organization Water Europe, attended the event and participated as a speaker.

The conference featured two thematic roundtable discussions:

  • First Thematic Session: “Modern History of DEYAL”

This session featured presentations from three former mayors of Larissa: Christodoulos Kaffes, Konstantinos Tzanakoulis, and Apostolos Kalogiannis, in addition to the current mayor, Athanasios Mamakos, and the Vice President of DEYAL, Konstantinos Argyropoulos.

  • Second Thematic Session: “Water Management”

Professor Chrysi Laspidou engaged in a dialogue addressing critical issues related to sustainable water management, including both challenges and future prospects. Other distinguished participants included Triantafyllos Karapatis, Commissioner of the Court of Audit of Larissa; Dr. Evina Gavalaki, a Civil Engineer from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA); Ioannis Theodorakopoulos, General Director of DEYA Lamia; and Dimitrios Savvorginakis, General Director of DEYAL.

The event took place on Friday, March 21, 2025, in the DEYAL Larissa event hall and was open to the public.
